Stoneton Sunday 13 October 2013

We arrived at the boat at about 4pm. I had been a good run from home with only a couple of heavy showers and a bit of light drizzle. When we arrived it was not raining but everywhere was wet.

One of the first jobs was to reverse along the arm and through the swing bridge, then round the narrow bend and out onto the canal, all was going swimmingly until as I almost cleared the bend a boat coming down the canal wanted to wind and I could see her bows coming round into the arm. With the use of her bow thruster she winded with her stern well against the far side piling and I just waited until she was off back up the canal and out of the way. I then continued backwards down to just above the lock to load up. The locks were quite busy with two boats coming up and two going down while we were there. Once the second boat going up had passed us we pushed off heading for Marston Doles. The pond was well up but there was nothing coming over the weir at Marston Doles bottom and the pond between the locks was well down. I had to wait at both locks for the two boats ahead to work up.

The building above the top lock is occupied once more and there are some interesting vehicles parked out side. DSCF3848DSCF3850

DSCF3851We had a few drops of rain at the lock, but the sky was brightening and blueing up nicely, it wasn’t long before the moon was well out.

There are new moorings advertised on the off side just above bridge 122. We continued on until about 6-30 mooring under a bright clear blue sky between bridges 125 and 126.
